Data Insight

Hindi film music splits authorship three ways, and this album is a clean example of the split. Pritam Chakraborty is the music director: he wrote the tunes and Discogs credits him album-wide as "Music By". Amitabh Bhattacharya wrote the words for every song, with Prasun Gupta supplying the Sanskrit shlokas in "Shiva Theme". Arijit Singh wrote none of it. He sings on six of the nine tracks and appears in no lyric or composition credit anywhere on the release, which is the ordinary shape of a playback singer's career and the reason his catalogue is other people's albums. The one place he steps past the microphone is "Deva Deva", where Discogs lists him as an arranger next to Sunny M.R., Aditya N., Somanshu Agarwal and the Swedish pair Chris Wetterström and Johan Folke. The awards kept the same division. Bhattacharya took Best Lyricist and Pritam took Best Music Director at the Filmfare Awards in 2023, while Singh won Best Male Playback Singer for "Kesariya" there and again at the National Film Awards ceremony held in August 2024.

Brahmāstra: Part One - Shiva is the soundtrack to Ayan Mukerji's 2022 Hindi fantasy film, with music by Pritam and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Sony Music India released the nine-track album on 6 October 2022, about a month after the film opened, by which point five of its songs had already gone out as singles. Arijit Singh sings on six of the nine, among them "Kesariya", which went to number one on Billboard's India Songs chart. Pritam won the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for it.
