By the Numbers
Symphonicities is a set of orchestral re-recordings of Sting's own catalog, drawing on both his solo songs and Police material, so all the underlying compositions are his own. Performed with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and arranged with Rob Mathes, the album reframes familiar songs in a symphonic setting. It showcases Sting's writing rather than presenting new compositions.
Symphonicities was recorded at Abbey Road with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and released on Deutsche Grammophon on 14 July 2010. It is the first album Sting built entirely from new orchestral recordings of songs he had already written, drawing on both his solo catalogue and the Police, and the title folds symphonic together with the Police album Synchronicity. Rob Mathes arranged and co-produced, Elliot Scheiner and Claudius Mittendorfer mixed. It reached number six on the Billboard 200, topped the charts in Poland and Portugal, and had passed a million copies worldwide by November 2010.
