By the Numbers
Songs from the Labyrinth is a classical album of John Dowland's late-Renaissance lute songs, so none of its music is a Sting original. He performs the 16th-century repertoire with Bosnian lutenist Edin Karamazov, and the two share production. The album topped the US classical charts and is a pure interpretive project rather than a songwriting showcase.
Songs from the Labyrinth is a record of John Dowland's late-Renaissance lute songs, released on Deutsche Grammophon on 10 October 2006 with the Bosnian lutenist Edin Karamazov. The sequence is broken up by readings from a letter Dowland wrote to Robert Cecil, and one song, 'Have You Seen the Bright Lily Grow,' is by his contemporary Robert Johnson rather than Dowland. It entered the UK chart at number 24 and reached number 25 on the Billboard 200, Sting's first album since 1986 to miss the UK top ten, though it went to number one on Billboard's classical chart and sold 268,000 copies in the US.
