Staind is an American rock band formed in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1995. The band broke through with their major-label debut Dysfunction (1999), co-produced with Fred Durst and engineered by Terry Date, and achieved mainstream success with Break the Cycle (2001), which reached five-times platinum status and produced the enduring rock radio staple "It's Been Awhile." Vocalist Aaron Lewis is the sole credited lyricist across nearly all studio albums, with the band collectively credited for the music. After a hiatus that lasted much of the 2010s, the reunited lineup released Confessions of the Fallen in 2023.
