Chapter V is fully self-written, with Aaron Lewis on lyrics and the band on music, continuing their melodic post-grunge direction. The lead single "Right Here" topped the Mainstream Rock chart and gave the band another rock-radio staple. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and is entirely the band's own work.
Chapter V was released on 9 August 2005 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 185,000 copies, Staind's third consecutive US chart-topper. It has sold about 1.2 million copies in the US and 1.5 million worldwide, though it was their weakest UK showing at number 112. David Bottrill co-produced it with the band at Allaire Studios in upstate New York.
