Data Insight

Santos is the sole credited writer on most of Golden, and the exceptions all name themselves. Shaffer Smith joins him on the intro, Phillip Jackson on Perjurio, Imitadora and Sin Filtro, Nick Rivera Caminero and Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez on Bella y Sensual, and Jessie Reyez on Un Vuelo A La. Production splits the same way. Santos and Mate Traxx run the bachata core, while the record hands the board over at its edges: to Swizz Beatz on Premio, to Saga WhiteBlack with Tainy and Nely on Bella y Sensual, and to Boi-1da, Illangelo, Illmind, Allen Ritter and Vinylz on the closing Sin Filtro. None of those outside producers take a writing credit, which is how the album moves between bachata, reggaeton and rap production and still reads as one author.

Golden is Romeo Santos's third solo album, released by Sony Latin in July 2017 after the Formula, Vol. 2 tour finished in Punta Cana. Santos produced it himself with Mate Traxx and handed a few tracks to hip hop producers, among them Boi-1da, Frank Dukes and Swizz Beatz, who also takes a verse on Premio. The guest list crosses generations, from Julio Iglesias and Juan Luis Guerra to Ozuna, Nicky Jam and Daddy Yankee. It entered the Billboard 200 at number 10 and sat at number one on Top Latin Albums for four straight weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions Golden

Who produced Golden?
Romeo Santos produced the record and shares almost every track with Mate Traxx, the engineer Wikipedia credits as Iván Chévere. Andrew Cedar takes the intro, Swizz Beatz produces Premio, Saga WhiteBlack works Bella y Sensual with Tainy and Nely, Vinylz, Allen Ritter and Frank Dukes build Imitadora, and Sin Filtro goes to Boi-1da, Illangelo, Illmind, Allen Ritter and Vinylz.
Who are the guests on Golden?
Swizz Beatz on Premio, Juan Luis Guerra on Carmín, Ozuna on Sobredosis, Nicky Jam and Daddy Yankee on Bella y Sensual, Julio Iglesias on El Amigo, and Jessie Reyez on Un Vuelo A La.
How did Golden chart?
It debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200 and at number one on both Top Latin Albums and Tropical Albums, holding the Top Latin Albums summit for four consecutive weeks. It also opened at number one in Mexico and Argentina.
Did Romeo Santos write Golden on his own?
Almost. He is the only writer listed on the bulk of the album, and co-writers appear only where a guest or an outside song idea does: Shaffer Smith, Phillip Jackson, Nick Rivera Caminero, Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez and Jessie Reyez.
Data note: Track credits come from the album liner notes as transcribed on Wikipedia and are checked against the Discogs US CD, which lists the same production and technical roster. Wikipedia prints the Bella y Sensual co-writers as Nick Caminero and Ramón Rodriguez; both are spelled here as this site already spells them, Nick Rivera Caminero and Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez. Wikipedia prints the Perjurio, Imitadora and Sin Filtro co-writer as Philip Jackson and Discogs on Utopía prints Phillip L. Jackson; the site spelling Phillip Jackson is used throughout. Mate Traxx is the same person Wikipedia lists in the technical credits as Iván Chévere.
