Data Insight

The first two Formula albums leaned on outside producers for their crossover tracks. Vol. 3 keeps the crossovers but moves the writing in-house: Santos and Alexander "ChiChi" Caba write together across the bachata material, Joaquín Díaz sits under most of it, and Phillip Jackson and Isaiah Ennio Parker turn up wherever a song needs a different chord shape. The outsiders are hired for one job each and they do not stay. Danja writes and produces Sin Fin and Nirvana, Édgar Barrera is the sole producer credited on Me Extraño, and Vinylz and Frank Dukes come in for Boomerang and R.I.P. R.I.P carries the longest writer list on the record by some distance, with Robert Bell, George Brown, Ricky Westfield, Khalis Bayyan and Don Boyce sitting alongside Santos, and none of those names appears anywhere else on the album.

Formula, Vol. 3 closed the trilogy Romeo Santos had opened in 2011, and Sony Latin released it on 1 September 2022 after two years of writing and recording. It is the widest record of the three: bachata still holds the centre, but Me Extraño is a ranchera with Christian Nodal, Sin Fin is a Danja production sung with Justin Timberlake, El Pañuelo brings in Rosalía, and 15,500 Noches turns into a merengue summit with Fernando Villalona, Rubby Pérez, Toño Rosario and Ramón Orlando. It won Best Merengue/Bachata Album at the Latin Grammy Awards, the first Grammy of Santos's career. The album reached number one on Tropical Albums, number two on Top Latin Albums and number 10 on the Billboard 200.

Frequently Asked Questions Formula, Vol. 3

Is this the third Formula album?
Yes. Formula, Vol. 3 arrived on 1 September 2022 and closes the run that began with Formula, Vol. 1 in 2011 and Formula, Vol. 2 in 2014. It is a separate record from those two and shares no tracks with them.
Who are the guests on Formula, Vol. 3?
Rosalía on El Pañuelo, Justin Timberlake on Sin Fin, Christian Nodal on Me Extraño, Chris Lebron on Siri, Lápiz Conciente on Culpable, Luis Miguel del Amargue with DJ Adoni on La Última Vez, and Fernando Villalona, Rubby Pérez, Toño Rosario and Ramón Orlando together on 15,500 Noches. Katt Williams and Santos's sons open the record.
Did Formula, Vol. 3 win anything?
It took Best Merengue/Bachata Album at the Latin Grammy Awards, which Wikipedia records as the first Grammy Santos had won.
How did Formula, Vol. 3 chart?
It entered the Billboard 200 at number 10 on 26,000 units, reached number one on Tropical Albums and number two on Top Latin Albums.
Data note: Album-level facts, chart peaks and personnel come from English Wikipedia and the Romeo Santos discography article, and the musician roster is confirmed against the Discogs US CD. The per-track writer and producer assignments, however, rest on Genius alone: the Discogs pressing lists players and guests but no writing or production roles, the Wikipedia article carries no writer column, and MusicBrainz holds no relationships for this release. The album is therefore left unverified. Two spellings were normalised. Genius prints the Boomerang co-writer as Adam Ritter, which is recorded here as Allen Ritter, the spelling Discogs uses for the same person in the Formula, Vol. 3 keyboard credits and the spelling Wikipedia uses on Golden. Genius prints the R.I.P co-writers as Robert "Kool" Bell and Ricky West, recorded here as Robert Bell and Ricky Westfield to match this site. Chris Lebron, Crivas, JH Beats, DJ Adoni, El Zafiro and Jade Omari stay in lyricists only because no source opened here publishes a legal name for them.
