The Getaway broke with Red Hot Chili Peppers tradition by replacing Rick Rubin with Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) as producer, with Nigel Godrich mixing. Songs remain credited to all four members (Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer), but the change in production gave the album a more arranged, layered sound than the band's earlier jam-driven records. This was Klinghoffer's second and final studio album with the group before Frusciante's return. The lead single 'Dark Necessities' became a rare song to top three Billboard rock airplay charts at once.
Produced by Danger Mouse, the first RHCP album not produced by Rick Rubin since the 1980s. A more restrained, melodic record with Josh Klinghoffer on guitar.
