Every song on this double album is credited to all four members of Red Hot Chili Peppers (Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and John Frusciante), reflecting the band's standard jam-based writing where Kiedis supplies lyrics and melody over music built collectively. This was the second Rick Rubin-produced album of Frusciante's tenure, and his guitar work is unusually layered and prominent across all 28 tracks. The decision to release a 28-song double album came from the volume of material the four wrote together during the sessions. The lead single 'Dani California' sweeps the band's career in its lyrics and earned multiple 2007 Grammys.
A double album (Jupiter and Mars discs) produced by Rick Rubin, spanning 28 tracks. The band's longest studio release and their last with John Frusciante until his 2019 return.
