By the Numbers
Return of the Dream Canteen was the second album Red Hot Chili Peppers released in 2022, drawn from the same Rick Rubin-produced reunion sessions that yielded Unlimited Love and featuring the returned John Frusciante on guitar. All songs are credited to the four members (Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and Frusciante), written collectively from jams as the band has long worked. Releasing two full-length albums from one set of sessions reflected how much material the reunited lineup generated. The album arrived in October 2022, six months after Unlimited Love.
A companion album released the same year as Unlimited Love, also produced by Rick Rubin with the Frusciante-reunited lineup. Together the two albums were conceived as a double-album project.
