By the Numbers
One Hot Minute is the only Red Hot Chili Peppers studio album to feature Dave Navarro on guitar, replacing John Frusciante, with every song credited to all four members: Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Navarro, and Chad Smith. Navarro's heavier, more psychedelic guitar style pushed the band toward hard rock and funk metal, a notable departure from the funk rock of earlier records. Rick Rubin again produced, but the collaborative writing was strained by the lineup change and personal turmoil. The shared credit reflects the band's jam-driven process even as the chemistry differed from the Frusciante era.
Recorded with guitarist Dave Navarro following John Frusciante's first departure. The band's darkest and most experimental album, drawing on grunge and alternative metal.
