By the Numbers
Jennifer Lopez built her second album around her longtime collaborator Cory Rooney and producer Troy Oliver, who shaped most of its pop, R&B and Latin pop blend alongside her. The lead single "Love Don't Cost a Thing" came from a Ric Wake and Cory Rooney production with a writing team of Damon Sharpe, Greg Lawson, Georgette Franklin, Jeremy Monroe and Amille Harris, while "I'm Real" was written by Lopez, Rooney, Troy Oliver and L.E.S. and produced by Oliver and Rooney. Those two songs became the album's defining hits, with "I'm Real" topping the Billboard Hot 100 through its Murder Remix with Ja Rule. Lopez takes co-writing credit across much of the record, but its direction rests on the Rooney and Oliver production core that carried over from her debut.
J.Lo is Jennifer Lopez's second studio album, released January 23, 2001 on Epic Records. It debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and became one of the best-selling albums of 2001. The album continued her pop and R&B direction and featured collaborations with Ja Rule, whose remixes of 'I'm Real' and 'Ain't It Funny' became even bigger hits than the original versions. Cory Rooney and Troy Oliver again served as primary creative architects alongside Sean Combs and Mario Winans.
