Leather Jackets is the twentieth studio album by Elton John, released in November 1986 on Rocket Records and produced by Gus Dudgeon. The album is widely considered the nadir of Elton's recording career, released at a time when his voice had deteriorated severely due to throat nodules and his personal life was in crisis from drug and alcohol abuse. The production is slick to the point of sterility, and Taupin's lyrics, while professionally accomplished, lacked the fire of their best collaborative work. Critical reception was poor and commercial performance was the weakest of Elton's career since the early 1970s.
