Welcome to My World has no Dean Martin songwriting credits at all; it is a pure interpreter's album built from other people's hits. The title track came from Ray Winkler, who wrote the lyric, and John Hathcock, who wrote the melody, a Texas radio duo whose song had already been a hit for Jim Reeves in 1962. The rest of the album pulls from two overlapping worlds: fresh mid-1960s Nashville country songs, like Curly Putman's 'Green, Green Grass of Home,' Wayne Walker and Irene Stanton's 'Pride,' and Hank Mills and Dick Jennings' 'Little Ole Wine Drinker, Me,' and older pop standards such as Billy Hill's 1936 'In the Chapel in the Moonlight' and the Eddie Miller-Dub Williams-Robert Yount standard 'Release Me.' A third strand ties back to producer Jimmy Bowen's own pop connections: he co-wrote 'I Can't Help Remembering You' with German bandleader Bert Kaempfert and his writing partner Herbert Rehbein, and 'Turn to Me' came from the Kaempfert-adjacent lyric team of Larry Kusik and Eddie Snyder. The album's authorship story is really about song selection and production, not composition; Bowen's job was choosing which outside songs fit Martin's voice.
Welcome to My World is a studio album by Dean Martin, released in July 1967 on Reprise Records and built around his growing pull with country audiences. Producer Jimmy Bowen assembled ten outside-written songs, blending recent Nashville hits with older pop standards, drawn from sessions dating back to December 1964. The title track, written by Ray Winkler and John Hathcock, had already been a hit for Jim Reeves in 1962, and Martin's version leans into the same warm, string-laced country-pop arrangement that defined his mid-1960s sound. Two singles carried the album onto the charts: 'In the Chapel in the Moonlight' topped the Adult Contemporary chart, and 'Little Ole Wine Drinker, Me,' a Hank Mills and Dick Jennings song already a hit for Robert Mitchum that same year, reached the Adult Contemporary top five. The album also folds in Curly Putman's 'Green, Green Grass of Home' and Wayne Walker and Irene Stanton's 'Pride,' both established country songs, alongside pop-side material connected to Bert Kaempfert's Nashville and European writing circle. It peaked at number 20 on the Billboard 200, restoring a measure of Martin's commercial clout at Reprise.
