This Desert Life Songwriting Credits by Counting Crows

This Desert Life is the third studio album by Counting Crows, released November 2, 1999 on DGC/Geffen Records. The band recorded it in a rented house in the Hollywood Hills with producers David Lowery of Cracker and Dennis Herring, a departure from the outside studios used on their first two records. Frontman Adam Duritz wrote every lyric on the album, with the music credited to himself alone on several tracks and in combination with guitarist Dan Vickrey, bassist Matt Malley, keyboardist Charlie Gillingham, and drummer Ben Mize on others. Lead single 'Hanginaround' became the band's first number one on the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay chart, followed by 'Mrs. Potter's Lullaby' and 'All My Friends.' The record also marked the arrival of David Immerglück, a longtime session player and friend of the band who joined as a full member ahead of the album's release and appears on bass, mandolin, and pedal steel guitar across several tracks. A hidden bonus song, 'Kid Things,' follows several minutes of silence after 'St. Robinson in His Cadillac Dream,' the two combined into a single 15:40 indexed track on the CD. This Desert Life reached number 8 on the Billboard 200 and had sold more than two million copies worldwide by February 2002.
