Recovering the Satellites is the second studio album by Counting Crows, released on October 15, 1996 through DGC/Geffen Records. Produced by Gil Norton and recorded across studios in Hollywood, San Francisco, and mixed in New York, it followed the multi-platinum success of August and Everything After with a heavier, more electric sound built around new full-time members Dan Vickrey and Ben Mize. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and went on to sell over two million copies in the US, earning a double-platinum RIAA certification. Singles 'Angels of the Silences,' 'A Long December,' and 'Daylight Fading' carried the record on rock and adult alternative radio, with 'A Long December' becoming one of the band's signature songs.
