Hard Candy Songwriting Credits by Counting Crows

Hard Candy is the fourth studio album by Counting Crows, released July 8, 2002 on Geffen Records and produced by Steve Lillywhite. Frontman Adam Duritz holds a writing credit on every original track, sharing the music credit on several songs with bandmates Dan Vickrey, Charlie Gillingham, David Immerglück, and Matt Malley, and co-writing 'Butterfly in Reverse' with guest Ryan Adams. Lead single 'American Girls' topped Billboard's Adult Alternative Airplay chart and features Sheryl Crow on backing vocals, part of a run of guest singers that also includes Matthew Sweet on the title track and Leona Naess on 'Black and Blue.' The album ends with a hidden cover of Joni Mitchell's 'Big Yellow Taxi,' credited solely to Mitchell, whose liner notes joke the record 'may contain traces of Joni Mitchell'; a separate single mix added Vanessa Carlton on vocals for its use in the film Two Weeks Notice, even though the two acts recorded their parts apart. Hard Candy reached number five on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
