Data Insight

Sway is Justin Furstenfeld's album as a writer. He wrote or co-wrote nearly every track and sang lead throughout, with band and outside collaborators appearing as co-writers on a handful of songs. 'Breathe, It's Over' and 'Things We Don't Know About' were co-written with bassist Matt Noveskey; 'Fear' was co-written with Blue Miller and 'Hard Candy' with Julian Kayl Mandrake. On 'Bleed Out' the music comes from outside writers Jeremy Raby, Chris Lindsey, Mark L. Holman, and David Castell, with Furstenfeld credited as lyricist per MusicBrainz, and 'Not Broken Anymore' pairs him with Chris Lindsey and David Castell. The one song without a Furstenfeld credit is 'Put It In,' written by his brother Jeremy Furstenfeld with Matt Noveskey. Production runs through Furstenfeld and David Castell with Tim Palmer mixing, and the full performing band appears on every track.

Sway is the seventh studio album by American rock band Blue October, released August 20, 2013 on the band's own Up/Down Records with North American distribution through Megaforce. It was the first album the band made independently after leaving Universal, written largely by frontman Justin Furstenfeld as a sober, reflective turn following his divorce and recovery. The record debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Top Alternative Albums chart, giving the band its strongest independent showing. Lead single 'Bleed Out' reached the top 25 of the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart, followed by 'Angels in Everything,' the title track 'Sway,' and 'Fear.' David Castell and Furstenfeld produced the sessions in Texas, with veteran producer Tim Palmer handling additional production and the final mix. Ryan Delahoussaye's violin, mandolin, and string arrangements give the album its wide, orchestral alternative-rock sound across thirteen tracks.
