Data Insight

The album is a near-total Justin Furstenfeld statement. He wrote all thirteen tracks, alone on most of them and with a single collaborator on four: Andy Sharp on 'Drama Everything,' producer Tim Palmer on 'The Chills,' 'You Waited Too Long,' and 'The Getting Over It Part,' and Dwight Baker on 'The Worry List.' Because it is a personal concept record about his custody battle, the writing credit rarely leaves his name. Furstenfeld and Palmer co-produced throughout, with Palmer also engineering and mixing.

Any Man in America is the sixth studio album by Blue October, released on August 16, 2011 through the band's own Up/Down label with distribution by RED. It is a concept album built almost entirely from frontman Justin Furstenfeld's divorce and the custody battle over his daughter, tracing the fear, anger, and eventual acceptance of that fight in sequence. Furstenfeld wrote every song on the record, and the lyrics move from raw courtroom rage to a father's plea to stay in his child's life. The band recorded it with longtime producer Tim Palmer, who co-produced and mixed, and the arrangements lean on Ryan Delahoussaye's violin and keys alongside the group's alternative-rock core. It became the highest-charting album of Blue October's career, debuting at number 8 on the Billboard 200 and topping the Top Rock Albums chart. The title frames one man's story as a stand-in for any father caught in the same system.
