By the Numbers
Authorship on this album runs through Justin Furstenfeld, who produced it and holds a writing credit on every track. He is rarely alone on the page: Eric Holtz co-writes the large majority of the songs, and individual tracks pull in band members Matthew Ostrander, Steve Schiltz, and Ryan Delahoussaye plus one high-profile outside guest, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, on 'Sobriety.' Because Furstenfeld records and writes under his own name, the lyricist and composer columns largely match; the clearest legal-name distinction is Corgan, credited as William Patrick Corgan. Note the lineup shift for this era: founding guitarist C.B. Hudson does not appear on the album, with guitar and additional bass handled by Ostrander, Will Knaak, and Steve Schiltz alongside the core of Furstenfeld, drummer Jeremy Furstenfeld, bassist Matt Noveskey, and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Delahoussaye.
Spinning the Truth Around (Part Two) is the twelfth studio album by American rock band Blue October, released October 13, 2023 on the band's own Up/Down Records. It completes the two-part Spinning the Truth Around project begun with Part One in 2022, extending the same emotionally direct alternative-rock songwriting that has defined frontman Justin Furstenfeld's catalog. Furstenfeld produced the record and wrote or co-wrote every track, working most often with collaborator Eric Holtz and drawing a guest writing credit from Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan on 'Sobriety.' The album leans on Furstenfeld's confessional lyrics about recovery, family, and moving forward, backed by the band's signature blend of guitars, Ryan Delahoussaye's violin and keyboards, and gang vocals. The lead single 'Down Here Waiting' reached number 40 on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart, and the album debuted at number one on the iTunes Top Alternative Rock Albums chart, with the standard edition rounded out by two alternate mixes and a vinyl-only bonus track, 'The Flood.'
