By the Numbers
Justin Furstenfeld is the author of this record. He wrote or co-wrote all twelve songs and produced them with David Castell, so the lyricist and composer columns are built around his name on every track. The co-writes point outward to his collaborators: Nashville producer-musician Blue Miller on 'Ugly Side,' 'Razorblade,' and 'Somebody,' bandmates Ryan Delahoussaye and Matt Noveskey on 'Razorblade,' guitarist C.B. Hudson on 'Somebody,' and Beth Miekos Mueller on 'Inner Glow.' The composer column carries Hudson's legal name, Charles Britton Hudson III, where he shares a credit. The performer column is the classic-era Blue October lineup, with the bass split between Matt Noveskey and Dwayne Casey across the album.
History for Sale is the third studio album by Blue October, released April 8, 2003 on Brando Records and re-released that August through Universal Records. It is the first album to feature lead guitarist C.B. Hudson, and the only one to feature Dwayne Casey, who split bass duties with returning member Matt Noveskey. Justin Furstenfeld wrote or co-wrote every track and produced the record with David Castell, with Nashville musician Blue Miller producing and co-writing several songs. The lead single 'Calling You' became the band's first charting single and its breakthrough on adult alternative radio. Tim Palmer mixed the album, which was recorded at Sound Arts Studios in Houston and Stomp Box Studios in Arlington, Texas, and it won Best Album at the 2003 Houston Press Music Awards. The album title comes from a lyric in the closing track 'Amazing.'
