By the Numbers
Spinning the Truth Around (Part One) is a Justin Furstenfeld album at its core. He is the lone constant writer on all twelve tracks, producing the record himself and writing three songs almost solo, while the rest are co-writes built out with engineer Eric Holtz and the band. Bandmates step into the writing on specific tracks, Jeremy Furstenfeld on 'The Shape of Your Heart,' Will Knaak on 'How Can You Love Me If You Don't Even Like Me?' and 'The Kitchen Drawer,' Ryan Delahoussaye on 'The Kitchen Drawer' and 'Shut Up. I Want You to Love Me Back,' and Matt Noveskey on 'Change.' Two high-profile guests widen the credits: Billy Corgan, whose legal name is William Patrick Corgan, co-writes 'Don't Say It Wasn't Love,' and Idaho's Jeff Martin co-writes 'The Girl Who Stole My Heart.' Founding guitarist C.B. Hudson had left the band by this record, so the guitar chair belongs to Will Knaak.
Spinning the Truth Around (Part One) is the eleventh studio album by American rock band Blue October, released October 14, 2022 on the band's own Up/Down Records label. It is the first half of a two-part project written and recorded by frontman Justin Furstenfeld with the band at his Up/Down Studios in San Marcos, Texas, across 2020 and 2021, with Part II following on October 13, 2023. Furstenfeld produced the record himself, with Eric Holtz handling engineering and mixing alongside Phil Tan and Mark Needham. The twelve songs span the band's signature blend of confessional alternative rock and orchestral pop, anchored by Ryan Delahoussaye's violin and keyboards. The title track led the release as a single, and the project splits a single sustained body of work across two albums rather than functioning as separate records. Guest co-writers include Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan on 'Don't Say It Wasn't Love' and Idaho's Jeff Martin on 'The Girl Who Stole My Heart.'
