This is the album where the authorship pattern becomes total: Alex Turner wrote every word and every note, taking sole credit across all eleven tracks. The collective band music credit of the earlier records is gone, replaced by Turner alone, with the rest of the band playing as performers rather than co-writers. It is the strongest single-author statement in the catalog.
Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino is the sixth studio album by Arctic Monkeys, released in May 2018 on Domino. Written by Alex Turner alone on a piano he had bought for his Los Angeles home, it abandoned guitar-rock for a lounge-pop and space-age concept record set in a hotel on the moon. Turner produced it with James Ford and handled much of the instrumentation himself. The shift split listeners, but the album still entered the UK chart at number one. It marked the first time Turner took sole songwriting credit across an entire Arctic Monkeys album.
