Data Insight

Humbug holds the same authorship shape as the first two albums: Alex Turner alone on every lyric, the band sharing the music credit. What changed is the production split, with Josh Homme handling most tracks and James Ford the rest, so the producer column alternates across the record. The composer column again lists the four members by legal name on each song.

Humbug is the third studio album by Arctic Monkeys, released in August 2009 on Domino. Recorded partly in the California desert with Queens of the Stone Age leader Josh Homme producing, it pulled the band away from their fast indie sound toward heavier, darker, more psychedelic textures. Alex Turner wrote all the lyrics, and the band kept its collective music credit. Homme produced seven tracks and James Ford produced four, with Alain Johannes engineering. The album reached number one in the UK and showed Arctic Monkeys willing to reshape their sound rather than repeat themselves.
