AM keeps Alex Turner as the dominant writer but adds two outside lyric credits: Alan Smyth on "Mad Sounds" and poet John Cooper Clarke, whose poem became "I Wanna Be Yours." Music stays the band's collective credit, so the four members appear by legal name on every track. It is the band's biggest-selling album and the clearest case of outside lyrics entering a Turner-led record.
AM is the fifth studio album by Arctic Monkeys, released in September 2013 on Domino. It became the band's commercial peak, fusing hard rock riffs with hip-hop rhythms, falsetto backing vocals, and a late-night swagger drawn from R&B and Dr. Dre productions. Alex Turner wrote the lyrics, with Alan Smyth co-writing "Mad Sounds" and poet John Cooper Clarke supplying the words to "I Wanna Be Yours." James Ford and Ross Orton produced. The album topped charts worldwide and is certified seven times platinum in the UK.
