Goblin was Tyler, the Creator's major-label debut for XL Recordings, and he wrote and produced nearly all of it himself in the framework of imagined therapy sessions with an alter ego. Left Brain co-produced one track, but the album is otherwise the work of a single auteur handling beats and lyrics. Guest features come from the Odd Future camp, including Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis, Mike G, Jasper Dolphin, Taco and Syd, while Frank Ocean adds a hook on 'She.' Syd mixed the record and Brian Gardner handled mastering.
Goblin is the second studio album and major-label debut by Tyler, the Creator, released on May 10, 2011 through XL Recordings. Produced largely by Tyler with Left Brain, the alternative hip-hop and horrorcore record is anchored by the breakout single "Yonkers" and "She" featuring Frank Ocean. The album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 with 45,000 first-week copies and was later certified platinum in the United States. Built around Tyler's ongoing conversations with the therapist character Dr. TC, it drew both acclaim and controversy for its shock-rap subject matter. Goblin pushed Odd Future into the mainstream and made Tyler one of the most talked-about new rappers of the early 2010s.
