Thirteen of the fourteen tracks are Jack White's, the exception being the Bacharach and David song. The credit sheet on this album is unusually precise about who did what: it splits lyrics from music track by track, so "I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself" carries Hal David for the words and Burt Bacharach for the music, while every original credits Jack for the words and Jack and Meg for the music.

Elephant is the White Stripes' fourth album, released in April 2003 on V2 and recorded at Toe Rag Studios in London on pre-1960s equipment. It topped the UK Albums Chart, reached number six in the US, and won Best Alternative Music Album at the 2004 Grammy Awards. "Seven Nation Army" won Best Rock Song at the same ceremony.
