Lover is Taylor Swift's seventh studio album, released August 23, 2019, through Republic Records, her first album on a new label after leaving Big Machine Records. A sharp tonal reversal from the dark theatrics of Reputation, it is her most overtly romantic and summer-inflected album, produced across three main collaborator pairs: Jack Antonoff (who co-wrote the psychedelic 'Cruel Summer' with St. Vincent), Joel Little (who produced the lead singles 'Me!' and 'You Need to Calm Down'), and the Frank Dukes/Louis Bell team who produced the sparser, more atmospheric tracks. The album debuted at number one in over ten countries and spawned five singles. 'Cruel Summer' became one of Swift's longest-charting hits, re-entering the Hot 100 after the Eras Tour in 2023 and eventually reaching number one. The album also features 'Soon You'll Get Better,' an emotional ballad about a parent's illness recorded with the Dixie Chicks.
