Peligro again split authorship between Shakira and outside writers, though she contributed more of her own material than on Magia. Shakira wrote 'Eres,' 'Quince Anos,' 'Controlas Mi Destino,' 'Este Amor es lo Mas Bello del Mundo' and co-wrote '1968,' while producer Eduardo Paz supplied 'Ultimo Momento,' 'Peligro' and 'Brujeria' and outside writers Desmond Child and Eddie Sierra contributed one track each. Paz produced the entire record. Shakira has spoken negatively about the album in later years, viewing it as a transitional release before her breakthrough.

Peligro is Shakira's second studio album, released October 26, 1993. Another Spanish-language pop album on Sony Colombia, it was produced by Eduardo Paz and sold even fewer copies than Magia. Shakira later distanced herself from this record and it was never widely distributed outside Colombia. It represents the final chapter of her early, commercially unsuccessful period before she took creative control of her sound and production on Pies Descalzos.
