Recorded when Shakira was a teenager, Magia is her most outside-driven studio album, with several tracks supplied by adult collaborators rather than written by Shakira herself. She wrote or co-wrote roughly half the record, including the title track 'Magia,' 'Suenos,' 'Cazador de Amor,' 'Gafas Oscuras' and 'Necesito de Ti,' while producers and writers such as Miguel E. Cubillos and Pablo Tedeschi contributed the rest. Production was handled by Gabriel Munoz, Miguel E. Magia is Shakira's debut studio album, released October 21, 1991, when she was just 13 years old. Recorded for Sony Colombia, it is a Spanish-language pop album reflecting her early musical interests. Shakira wrote five of the nine tracks, an impressive creative ownership for a teenager. The album sold around 1,200 copies and is widely considered a commercial failure, but it established her as a writer-performer rather than a pure performer from the outset.
