Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music, Vol. 2 is a studio album by Ray Charles, released in October 1962 on ABC-Paramount Records and produced by Sid Feller, the immediate follow-up to one of the year's most commercially successful albums, issued while the first volume was still in the top five on the Billboard 200 and selected from the same sessions and the same catalog of Nashville songwriting. Charles did not write the material; the album continues the orchestrated country-soul synthesis of the first volume with additional Hank Williams, Don Gibson, and Bob Wills material, including 'Your Cheatin' Heart,' 'Don't Tell Me Your Troubles,' and 'Midnight.' 'You Don't Know Me,' one of the album's principal tracks, reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains one of the most covered Charles recordings, later re-recorded by Elvis Presley, Michael Bublé, and dozens of others. The album reached number two on the Billboard Pop Albums chart and spent over 30 weeks on the chart; it has been certified gold in the United States. The Vol. 2 follow-up demonstrated both the commercial demand for the Modern Sounds concept and Charles's command of the Nashville repertoire, and it served as the capstone of what remains the most commercially and culturally significant period of his recording career.
