Indigo: Women of Song Songwriting Credits by Olivia Newton-John

This is a pure interpreter's record: Olivia Newton-John wrote none of the eleven songs, so the composer column belongs entirely to the original writers. The album's theme is women in song rather than women songwriters, since most of the material was penned by men, including Burt Bacharach and Hal David ('Anyone Who Had a Heart,' 'Alfie'), George and Ira Gershwin ('Summertime'), Stephen Sondheim ('Send in the Clowns'), and Antonio Carlos Jobim ('How Insensitive'). The women who carry the concept are mostly the singers who made the songs famous, Karen Carpenter, Nina Simone, Cilla Black, Joan Baez, Nancy Wilson, and Julie London. Among the writing credits themselves, the women present are Minnie Riperton, who co-wrote 'Lovin' You,' and Dorothy Heyward, a co-author of 'Summertime.' Phil Ramone produced every track, with arrangements by Randy Waldman.
