The Long Road is fully self-written, credited to the band with Chad Kroeger as the principal writer. It produced the crossover ballad "Someday," a Hot 100 top-ten hit, alongside heavier singles like "Figured You Out." The album earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album and is entirely the band's own work.
The Long Road arrived on Roadrunner on September 23, 2003 and opened at number six on the Billboard 200 with 200,000 copies sold in a week. It was the band's last record with drummer Ryan Vikedal and the first they made with Joey Moi producing alongside them, built on downtuned riffs and double bass drumming. 'Someday' reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. US sales passed 3.5 million by 2011 and worldwide sales top five million, and the album was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2004 Grammy Awards.
