By the Numbers
Curb is Nickelback's debut, written primarily by lead singer Chad Kroeger although all four members are credited equally. Kroeger holds every lyric credit and the music goes to the band as a unit, with producer Jeff Boyd added on the four songs carried over from the Hesher EP: 'Where?,' 'Fly,' 'Left' and 'Window Shopper.' The Canadian-only release leaned on a raw grunge and post-grunge sound before the band found its mainstream formula. 'Just Four' was re-recorded five years later as 'Just For' on Silver Side Up.
Curb is Nickelback's debut, put out in Canada only by FACTOR on May 15, 1996 and recorded that January at Turtle Recording Studios in Richmond, British Columbia with Larry Anschell producing. Chad Kroeger wrote all the lyrics, some of them going back to 1993, and the music is credited to the whole band. 'Fly' was the only single. Roadrunner remastered the record for an international release in June 2002, when it reached number 182 on the Billboard 200, and it has since gone gold in Canada and silver in the UK.
