It marked the start of his long production partnership with Jimmy Bowen, with Strait sharing the producer's chair for the first time. The title track, written by Sanger D. Shafer and Darlene Shafer, gave him a number one single and won the Country Music Association Album of the Year. Strait wrote none of the ten songs, drawing heavily on Sanger D. Shafer's catalog and on the Sonny Throckmorton and Casey Kelly song 'The Cowboy Rides Away.' The album reached the top of the country chart and was certified platinum.
