For the 2011 self-titled album, Amy Lee wrote with a settled band lineup, sharing credits with guitarist Terry Balsamo, bassist Tim McCord, and drummer Will Hunt. Producer Nick Raskulinecz shaped the album's heavier, guitar-forward sound but did not take songwriting credit. Lee described the record as the first time the full band wrote together in a room rather than around her demos, which pushed the material toward a rawer rock energy. The result balanced the orchestral textures of earlier work with a more direct, riff-based attack.
Evanescence is the band's self-titled third studio album, released October 11, 2011. Produced by Nick Raskulinecz, it was the first Evanescence album co-written as a full band, with all five members (Amy Lee, Will Hunt, Tim McCord, Troy McLawhorn, and Terry Balsamo) sharing collective writing credits on 11 of 12 tracks. "Lost in Paradise" is the only track written solely by Amy Lee. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making Evanescence one of only a few acts to have three consecutive studio albums debut at number one.
