Data Insight

Kevin Churko and the band designed Evolution around a wider sonic range following the success of The Sound of Silence; A Reason to Fight was written specifically about suicide prevention. Evolution yielded four top-five Mainstream Rock singles, including three number-ones.

Evolution is the seventh studio album by Disturbed, released in October 2018 on Reprise Records and produced by Kevin Churko. It followed the commercial breakthrough of 'The Sound of Silence' and built on the acoustic and orchestral direction of the cover while integrating more electronic and pop production elements than any previous Disturbed release. Draiman wrote all lyrics; the album includes 'Are You Ready,' 'A Reason to Fight,' and 'Watch You Burn' alongside several acoustic and semi-acoustic tracks that capitalized on the audience that the 'Sound of Silence' cover had introduced to a more tonal, less heavy Disturbed. Evolution debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 79,000 first-week units and has been certified gold in the United States. The album represents the most stylistically diverse release of the Disturbed catalog and the most direct attempt to translate the commercial crossover of 'The Sound of Silence' into an album-length format. Evolution is the most sonically diverse and commercially experimental entry in the Disturbed catalog, and its Grammy nominations confirmed that the band had successfully expanded their audience beyond their established heavy metal fanbase without permanently abandoning the harder-edged identity that had made them one of the defining rock acts of the 2000s.
