It was the fastest-selling album in history by a female artist at the time of its release, selling 1.319 million copies in its first week in the United States and debuting at number one on the Billboard 200. Spears co-wrote some tracks, including the lead single, which was entirely written by Max Martin and Rami; the album continues the sonic formula of the debut with a slightly more mature pop-R&B sound, with 'Lucky,' 'Stronger,' and 'Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know' as the follow-up singles. 'Stronger' reached number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the defining pop anthems of Spears's early career, with a production that anticipated the harder-edged electronic pop she would develop on Blackout. Oops!... I Did It Again has been certified nine-times platinum in the United States and is the best-selling album of Spears's career; the album's commercial scale and the speed of its first-week sales made it a reference point for pop album commercial performance discussions for the following decade.
