Data Insight

Guilty is a case study in a singer who wrote none of her biggest album. Barry Gibb conceived, wrote, and produced the entire record with Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson, the same team behind the Bee Gees' late-1970s peak. The writing splits cleanly among Gibb collaborators: Barry with Robin Gibb on 'Woman in Love,' 'Run Wild,' 'Promises,' and 'Life Story,' Maurice added for the title track 'Guilty,' and Albhy Galuten sharing 'What Kind of Fool,' 'Never Give Up,' and 'Make It Like a Memory,' with 'The Love Inside' by Barry alone. Streisand's name appears on no composition on the album; she is purely the voice, joined by Barry Gibb on the two duets. The composer column therefore reads as Gibb legal names throughout, never hers.

Guilty is a 1980 studio album by Barbra Streisand and the best-selling album of her career. It was written and produced almost entirely by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees, working with his regular studio team of Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson. Every track was written by Barry Gibb, with Robin Gibb, Maurice Gibb, or Albhy Galuten sharing the credit on individual songs, while Streisand contributed only her voice. Barry Gibb sang the duets 'Guilty' and 'What Kind of Fool' with her and added background vocals across most of the record. The album topped the Billboard 200, produced the number-one single 'Woman in Love,' and sold roughly 15 million copies worldwide, earning Streisand and Gibb a Grammy for their duet on the title track.
