By the Numbers
Voulez-Vous pushed ABBA fully into disco, with the title track recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami over a single weekend. As on every ABBA album, all tracks were written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, who also produced. The set led with "Chiquitita" and "Does Your Mother Know," the latter a rare ABBA lead vocal for Ulvaeus. The hit "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" was not on the original LP but was added as a bonus track to some later editions.
Voulez-Vous is ABBA's sixth studio album, released in April 1979, representing the group's most direct engagement with the disco movement then at its commercial peak. The instrumental backing of the title track was partly recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami, the only ABBA recording made outside Sweden. All ten tracks are written solely by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, marking the end of Stig Anderson's regular co-writing contributions after The Album. The record produced five UK hit singles: 'Chiquitita,' 'Does Your Mother Know,' 'Angeleyes,' 'Voulez-Vous,' and 'I Have a Dream.' Voulez-Vous was the first ABBA album primarily recorded at Polar Studios in Stockholm.
