By the Numbers
Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus wrote and produced Arrival, refining the layered, hook-heavy studio sound that would define ABBA's peak years. The album carried three of the group's biggest singles in "Dancing Queen", "Money, Money, Money" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You", with engineer Michael B. Tretow shaping the dense vocal and instrumental arrangements. "Dancing Queen" became ABBA's only number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, while the title track closed the record as a synth-driven instrumental.
Arrival is ABBA's fourth studio album, released in October 1976, and widely considered their creative and commercial peak. It produced three of their most enduring hits: 'Dancing Queen,' 'Knowing Me, Knowing You,' and 'Money, Money, Money.' Recording sessions spanned from August 1975 to September 1976 at Metronome and Glen Studios in Stockholm, Sweden. The iconic ABBA logo (designed by Rune Söderqvist as an ambigram) debuted on this album's cover. Stig Anderson co-wrote the lyrics on four tracks, while five tracks are credited solely to Andersson and Ulvaeus. The album was selected for preservation in the US National Recording Registry in 2024.
