Data Insight

I'm Serious is T.I.'s commercially unsuccessful debut for Arista, and its authorship is his own raps over name-brand production from The Neptunes, DJ Toomp, Jazze Pha, and Lil Jon. The lead single failed to chart and the label declined a follow-up, leading to his release from the deal. He regrouped to found Grand Hustle and broke through two years later with Trap Muzik.

T.I.'s debut studio album, released October 9, 2001, through Arista Records and his own Ghet-O-Vision Entertainment imprint. The album's commercial performance was modest on release, but it established T.I. as a raw Atlanta street voice at a time when Luda and OutKast dominated Southern rap. DJ Toomp produced the majority of the album's core tracks, a partnership that would define T.I.'s sound for the next decade. The Neptunes co-produced and co-wrote two tracks including the title track, which also features Beenie Man. Jazze Pha contributed the Phalon Alexander-produced "Chooz U." T.I. wrote all his own lyrics throughout the album; his songwriting credit appears as 'Clifford Harris' across this and his early catalog.
