Data Insight

Amaryllis is a Brent Smith writing record filtered through outside collaborators. Smith is the lyricist and constant across all twelve songs, most often paired with Dave Bassett, who co-wrote the bulk of the album and also added guitar, backing vocals, and production. Bassist Eric Bass shares credit on the heavier tracks 'Unity,' 'Enemies,' 'Nowhere Kids,' and 'I'll Follow You,' while guitarist Zach Myers co-wrote the single 'Bully.' The one clear outlier is 'I'm Not Alright,' the only song not driven by the Smith-Bassett axis, credited to Smith with outside writers Dana Calitri, Nina Ossoff, and Kathy Sommer. Rob Cavallo produced the entire album, with Chris Lord-Alge mixing.

Amaryllis is the fourth studio album by Shinedown, released March 27, 2012 on Atlantic Records. Produced by Rob Cavallo, it followed the band's commercial breakthrough The Sound of Madness and pushed the same arena-rock scale further, layering David Campbell's string and horn arrangements over Brent Smith's melodic hard rock. It debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, the band's highest chart entry at the time, selling roughly 106,000 copies in its first week and topping the Top Hard Rock, Top Rock, and Alternative album charts. Smith described the record as built around empowerment and perseverance, with the title track written for his sister as a symbol of resilience. The singles 'Bully' and 'Unity' both reached number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, and the album was certified Gold by the RIAA.
