By the Numbers
The 2001 comeback keeps Astley firmly in author mode. He co-wrote the whole album with Chris Braide, with a few tracks written alone and one bringing in Bob Dipiero. There are no covers; every song is his own. The record carries on the writing-first identity he built across Free and Body & Soul, this time pointed at the European dance-pop market.
Keep It Turned On is the fifth studio album by Rick Astley, released in 2001 and his first new record after years away from the industry. A dance-pop comeback aimed mainly at the European market, it pairs Astley with songwriter Chris Braide, who co-wrote most of the album with him. Astley plays and sings across the record, and the production splits between Gary Stevenson, Ben Robbins, and Braide. Released first in Germany and the Netherlands, it gave Astley a low-key return to recording before his later, more successful comebacks. Every track carries his writing credit, continuing the self-written approach he adopted in the early 1990s.
