By the Numbers
All fourteen tracks are Bellamy's alone. Rich Costey's arrival is the change: strings on "Butterflies and Hurricanes", a bigger low end, and the apocalyptic framing the band kept afterwards. This is where a Devon three-piece starts writing for arenas, and the writing is still one person doing it.
Absolution is Muse's third album, released in September 2003 with Rich Costey producing. It was the band's first UK number one and began a run of seven consecutive chart-topping albums. "Time Is Running Out", "Hysteria" and "Butterflies and Hurricanes" all reached the UK top twenty.
