By the Numbers
Saints of Los Angeles is the band's most committee-written album: the default credit is a four-name team of Nikki Sixx, James Michael, DJ Ashba, and Marti Frederiksen, with Mick Mars and Tommy Lee added on the heavier tracks. Sixx still anchors the writing, but the outside collaborators reflect the modern rock production behind the record. There are no covers, so every song is the band's own work.
Saints of Los Angeles is the ninth studio album by Motley Crue, released in June 2008 and the last to feature the classic lineup of Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Nikki Sixx, and Tommy Lee. A loose concept album inspired by the band's own history and Nikki Sixx's memoir The Heroin Diaries, it returned to a hard-charging glam metal sound. The songs were largely written by a team of Sixx, James Michael, DJ Ashba, and Marti Frederiksen, with the band contributing music. The title track earned a Grammy nomination, and the album debuted in the top five of the Billboard 200, the band's strongest chart showing in years.
