Dr. Feelgood shows the band's writing at its most consistent: Nikki Sixx wrote every lyric, and the music is credited to Sixx and Mick Mars on most tracks, with the full band stepping in on 'Rattlesnake Shake' and 'Same Ol' Situation.' There are no covers, so the whole record is the band's own work, the closer 'Time for Change' adding outside writer Donna McDaniel.
Dr. Feelgood is the fifth studio album by Motley Crue, released by Elektra in September 1989 and the band's commercial peak. Recorded sober after the members went through rehab, it was their first with producer Bob Rock, whose tight, powerful production made it their most polished record. Nikki Sixx wrote all the lyrics, with most of the music co-written with Mick Mars, and it spawned a run of hit singles including the title track, 'Kickstart My Heart,' and the ballad 'Without You.' The album became their only number-one on the Billboard 200 and was certified six-times platinum.
