Brian Warner wrote all the lyrics and co-wrote the music with Tyler Bates, who also produced the record and played guitar, bass, keyboards, and handled programming. The pairing pushed Manson away from industrial textures toward a sparer blues-rock and hard-rock sound, heard on lead single 'Deep Six' and 'Third Day of a Seven Day Binge.' Bates, better known for film scoring, built the instrumental beds while Warner shaped melody and verse, making this the first Manson album driven by a single primary musical collaborator.

Marilyn Manson's ninth album, co-written and produced entirely with film composer Tyler Bates. A major stylistic departure, built around blues, desert rock, and cinematic production, it was widely praised as a career comeback. It was the first Marilyn Manson album on which Twiggy Ramirez did not appear.
