The credits map the fault line that would soon break the classic Foreigner apart. Mick Jones and Lou Gramm co-wrote the bulk of the album, but Jones alone wrote the two songs pushed hardest at pop radio, the title track 'Inside Information' and the Adult Contemporary number one 'I Don't Want to Live Without You,' the direction Gramm resented. 'Out of the Blue' is the outlier, the one track credited to all four members, Jones, Gramm, Wills, and Elliott. Jones produced with co-producer Frank Filipetti, who also engineered and mixed, and the composer column carries the members' legal names, Michael Leslie Jones and Louis Grammatico, under their stage credits.

Inside Information is the sixth studio album by Foreigner, released on December 7, 1987 on Atlantic Records. It followed the massive success of 1984's Agent Provocateur and leaned further into the polished, keyboard-heavy pop-rock that had carried the band's ballads onto the charts. Mick Jones produced the record with co-producer Frank Filipetti, and the core lineup of Lou Gramm on lead vocals, Jones on guitars and keyboards, Rick Wills on bass, and Dennis Elliott on drums was augmented by session players including keyboardist Peter-John Vettese and saxophonist Mark Rivera. The album gave the band two US top-ten singles, 'Say You Will' and the ballad 'I Don't Want to Live Without You,' the latter topping the Adult Contemporary chart. It was certified platinum in the United States, though the growing split between Gramm and Jones over the band's pop direction would lead to Gramm's departure not long after.
