In Your Honor

In Your Honor is the fifth studio album by Foo Fighters, released in June 2005 on RCA Records. It is a double album with a hard rock electric disc and an acoustic folk-influenced disc, produced by Nick Raskulinecz with additional production from Adam Kasper, and the most formally ambitious project in the band's catalog in terms of structure and guest appearances. Grohl wrote all material; Disc one includes 'Best of You' (which became one of the most played rock radio songs of the decade and spent seven weeks at number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart), 'DOA,' and 'In Your Honor'; disc two includes the acoustic ballads 'Miracle,' 'The Last Song,' and 'Still,' with guest appearances from John Paul Jones, Norah Jones, and Josh Homme. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 with 173,000 first-week sales and has been certified double platinum in the United States; the electric disc received stronger critical attention while the acoustic disc was seen as demonstrating Grohl's melodic range beyond the power chord framework. In Your Honor represents the commercial and creative peak of the band's RCA period and confirmed their position as one of the defining acts of mainstream rock in the mid-2000s. The double album format allowed Grohl to demonstrate the full range of his songwriting, from the anthemic hard rock of 'Best of You' to the acoustic introspection of 'The Last Song,' and established that Foo Fighters could sustain a 24-track artistic statement without the creative dilution that the format typically generated.
